We put working robots in Illawarra rooms young people can walk into, and we send kits home with families.

The Just Us League Limited is a registered charity based in Wollongong. We run robotics and AI programs for young people across the Illawarra, and we work on language models that help communities hold onto their own stories.

Who we are

An Illawarra charity. Robots on the floor. Kits on kitchen tables.

The Just Us League Limited (ABN 50 603 437 467) is a registered charity. After that first mention, we go by Just Us League, or the League.

We exist for families who can't buy a robot, for students who need a sensor on a chassis rather than a slide in a lecture, and for a region that shouldn't have to leave the Illawarra to touch this work.

We do two quite different things. Robotics access: kits that go home with families, a classroom kit that stays a charity asset, and equipment shared with schools and community groups. And, through our Australian AI Society program, language models for Aboriginal languages and stories, built with permission.

Kits with more than 15 Illawarra families

We've given robotics kits to more than 15 Illawarra families. Those kits go home for good.

A classroom that stays put

The VEX IQ classroom (robots, a field, and sensors) is a charity asset on permanent loan. It stays with the League.

Equipment we can share

Schools and community groups can borrow robotics equipment where named adults and insurance are in place.

Our programs

These are part of the League, not organisations we work alongside.

We've given robotics kits to more than 15 Illawarra families. Those kits stay with the families. The VEX IQ classroom stays a charity asset, and we share equipment with schools and community groups where the paperwork is in place.

Australian AI Society

Our own program for the AI half of the work. It is not a partner. You can read more at aisoc.au.

The quieter part of what we do lives here: language models for Aboriginal languages and stories, on terms communities set.

Language models, with permission

Through our Australian AI Society program, Just Us League works on language models for Aboriginal languages and stories, shared with permission by the communities they belong to.

The aim is simple: knowledge held in a form communities can actually reach and use, on terms they set. Communities decide what goes in, what stays out, and what comes back out again. Restricted knowledge stays restricted. Nothing is published without agreement.

Cultural knowledge belongs to the communities it comes from. We're custodians of a technical process, not owners of the material. This work moves slowly, and it should.

If you'd like to talk about it, write to [email protected].

Equipment sharing

We share robotics equipment with schools and community groups where there's proper adult supervision and insurance in place. The classroom kit stays a charity asset. Family kits that have already gone home stay with those families.

What we need from a borrower

Named adults in the room, and valid insurance. We write down who is responsible.

If that sounds like your school or group, write to [email protected].

News from the League

Letters and notes from the year, newest first.

A robotics and AI meet every month for Illawarra families

The Just Us League Limited is a registered charity in Wollongong. Since January 2025 we've held a robotics and AI meet every month for families in the Illawarra. We do it at Berkeley Community Hall. There's no charge. A parent or carer stays and works with their kids. It isn't a drop-off, and you don't need to know robots before you walk in. Kids are welcome.

Language models for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages and stories

The Just Us League Limited is a registered charity in Wollongong. Through our Australian AI Society program we work on language models for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages and stories. The knowledge belongs to the communities it comes from. We look after a technical process. We don't own the material.

We've been sourcing training data from stories First Nations people have agreed, or may agree, to share. Nothing goes in without permission. Permission can be withdrawn. Some knowledge is restricted, by family, by initiation, by gender, by Country. That material stays out. It doesn't belong in a public model.
